I went to Washington D.C. for the first time in years for a medical event called DO Day On The Hill. This event is organized annually by the AOA or American Osteopathic Association. The purpose of this event is to advocate for osteopathic medicine and healthcare in Capitol Hill. The AOA organized meetings with individuals and their respective elected officials from both the House and the Senate. As a New Yorker and Queens native, I had the opportunity to meet Congresswoman Grace Meng and the legislative aids to Senators Chuck Schumer and Kristin Gilibrand. It was very exciting to be part of the democratic process and connect with those who shape this country in such an impactful way. We discussed two major concerns with the officials, which included The Good Samaritan Law and higher education act. Because healthcare is so integrated in our daily lives, both of these pieces of legislation affect medical schools, current and prospective students, physicians, hospitals, and patients at different levels. In the video below, I share with you my experience attending the event as well as my tourist adventure the day before.
Oh, I forgot to mention, Dr. Mikhail Varshavski aka the sexiest doctor alive aka instagram famous Dr.Mike was there giving a great speech. Don’t worry, I recorded a bit of it for you!
