Since applying to medical school, I have been rejected by seven medical schools including my top choice. One day, I got rejected by four within 6 hours. I was absolutely devastated and heart broken. In the moment of dealing with rejection, all of my selfceare practices went out the window. I panicked, worried and felt restless. This idea I had built up in my head of how my life would be was shattered after reading those emails. For the first time in a long time, I cried. Dealing with rejection is raw and can lower your sense of self esteem and self-efficacy. It can make you feel down and in the dumps. However, since I was actively trying to practice self care, I went back to the techniques after a week of worry. Needless to say, it helped me get over the rejection and let it go. I can’t stress enough how important self care is when dealing with your negative feelings. In the video below, I share with you a few things I do when dealing with rejection.
