I firmly believe everyone could benefit from a little bit of therapy. Getting help from a person that is not bias and not dependent of you is one of the most helpful things you can do. While it’s important to have interpersonal relationships with friends, family and loved ones, they may not always be the best people to vent to, get advice from and find support in. The reason being so is that they’re invested in you and have their own bias because of how well they know you. However, finding the right therapist takes time. It could be because you don’t connect, your ideal person is out-of-network, you don’t have insurance, the copay is too high, the person is far away or you don’t have family support. These are some of the reasons why I started using the Talkspace App.
TalkSpace connects you with a therapist based on your preferences. For example, my preferences was to have a therapist that was young, a woman and Hispanic. I need the cultural connection as well as the comfort of speaking with someone my age who may share similar experiences. Even-though it’s not face-to-face interaction, I find it so much more beneficial. I’ve done traditional therapy and it’s been a hit or miss finding the therapists I connected to. Along with that, I hated that I only had an hour once a week. It made me rush through all of my thoughts and feelings and left me hanging until the following week. In addition to that, I found that when issues would arise I would have to hold it in until my next appointment. With TalkSpace, my therapist is right there in my phone. I check in with her twice a day for about 5-10 minutes five days a week. This adds up to roughly an hour depending on the week and provides me with help in the moment. For someone that struggles with school anxiety, phobia of failure and other issues, having her there to talk me through moments and give me tips and tools to help me deal with my issues in real time has been extremely beneficial to me. You can communicate with your therapist in different ways whether it is through text, picture, video, voice memo or face to face webcam. Remember, if you don’t connect well with your therapist you can always request another with ease.
It’s $50.00 a week for the basic plan, which is roughly about the same price as a copay or deductible and it can be done from wherever and whenever. The link below with give you $50 off for you to try it out.
